At Webb, we believe that learning to understand and communicate in another language is the key to cultural understanding. By learning another language, you open the door to another world. Webb offers a full program of study in French and Spanish, and exploratory studies in German and Mandarin. Spoken language is used extensively in the classroom, and used exclusively in advanced courses. At every level, students focus on learning not only proper spoken language, but also on listening, reading and writing. Cultural, geographic and literary studies provide a rich context for pursuing proficiency, and multi-media learning tools help students approach the language in new ways. Students may find themselves diving into poetry, music, art or film in order to gain insight into the language, people and culture. The result is not only greater confidence in communication, but also a deeper appreciation for the world in which we live.
