About Boarding

If you talk to Webb alumni, they'll tell you that the most enjoyable, most valuable part of their time at Webb was the boarding experience. They'll tell you about the good times they had and the lifelong friends they made, how well it prepared them for college, and how it became the cornerstone of their future success.
The boarding community is a crucial part of Webb's tradition of academic excellence. Our teachers are also the students' neighbors, dorm heads, advisors, and surrogate parents. That constant contact allows teachers to relate their lessons directly to the students' day-to-day experience, and ensures that each student receives the individual support and mentoring they need to do their best. Learning doesn't end when the class bell rings, either. It continues in extracurricular activities, in community service, in campus social events, and in all the countless "teachable moments" that occur outside the classroom.

Webb is not just a school: it's a diverse, vibrant community, encompassing many cultures, backgrounds, and points of view. Boarding students learn first-hand about the importance of cooperation, communication, and mutual respect. It's also a great opportunity to form lasting friendships with people from around the world.
The boarding community provides Webb students with a safe, controlled environment to explore their independence, giving them both the freedom they want and the boundaries they need. Boarders are responsible for getting themselves up in the morning, making time for homework, and balancing work and play. It's an experience that fosters maturity and self-discipline.
Just as importantly, the boarding experience offers vital lessons in leadership and personal responsibility. It shows students that they have the power to set the tone for their own community and make a real difference in the world around them. Webb is a trust-based community, founded on the Honor Code, a code of conduct administered by the students themselves. Boarding students live by the Honor Code 24/7, helping them develop the values and judgment to act with integrity in every aspect of their lives.
By the time they graduate, our students are amply prepared to take on the academic and social challenges of college, and to get the most out of the university experience. Their success won't end there. Whatever careers they choose, studies show that boarding students are more likely to advance quickly, enjoy greater levels of prosperity, and lead rich, active lives of community service, philanthropy, and leadership.
Being part of the Webb boarding community is challenging, rewarding, and fun -- an extraordinary experience that will set the stage for an extraordinary future.
