Mathematics
The true spirit of delight, the exaltation, the sense of being more than Man, which is the touchstone of the highest excellence, is to be found in mathematics as surely as in poetry. - Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970)
Mathematics at Webb is as much about solving problems as it is about mastering the relevant concepts and operations. Here, you will find both challenges and support every step of the way. Coursework makes extensive use of real-world applications for learning and applying mathematical skills. Students collect and manage data, perform analyses and answer questions. As part of the problem-solving process, students learn when to use technological approaches and when to rely on paper-and-pencil strategies. But it doesn’t end there. Once a solution has been reached, students are asked to communicate their findings both orally and in writing, and to apply the concepts they’ve learned to other disciplines – especially the sciences. Webb also offers a unique course in engineering and robotics, providing students a new outlet for applying their mathematical knowledge. And for math enthusiasts, there’s no limit to the challenges that await you.
