Science
I am among those who think that science has great beauty. A scientist in his laboratory is not only a technician: he is also a child placed before natural phenomena which impress him like a fairy tale. - Marie Curie (1867 - 1934)
At Webb, we don’t teach students science; rather, we teach students to be scientists. Our science curriculum aims to teach students to ask intelligent questions about nature as well as how to design experiments to answer those questions. All courses use a hands-on approach to science. Whether it’s testing atomic theory in Chemistry lab, building molecular models in Biology, exploring underwater ecosystems in Oceanography or charting the movement of planets in Astronomy, students are constantly provided with opportunities to discover.
The science department also makes use of the resources of the Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology. Students can participate in “Peccary trips” to dig sites to collect fossils, and can even take courses in Paleontology and Museum Research. At Webb, it’s not just science, but science in action.
