VWS Athlete of the Month:
Lexington Henn ‘09
Nominated by her teammates to be Captain, Lexi shows her leadership abilities both on and off the field. Head Coach Kayce Matsunaga says, “On the field, one word that would describe her would be a ‘beast’ that never gives up. Her passion for the game shows every time she steps onto the soccer field. For example, Lexi goes in hard for every play of the game. Once, after getting into a collision with an opponent, Lexi got wounded in the head. She came off to the side, we cleaned her up, and she went back out onto the field and played even harder.” Off the field, Lexi is very involved with the school as part of A.S.B and the Paleontology program. Despite a heavy load from school and sports, Lexi always has a smile on her face and keeps up the spirits of the girls on her team, always motivating them to do better.
WSC Athlete of the Month:
Jacob Rode '10
In his first year on the varsity, after one year of JV and one year of Freshman ball, Jacob has really caught the eye of the coaching staff. He is not afraid to work on the things that he doesn't do well, knowing that if he does work on these things he will be a better player and, as a result, the team will be better as well. Head Coach Rick Duque says Jacob “is not afraid to battle someone that is 20 pounds heavier or 3-4 inches taller. Since the start of the season the team has been looking for ‘that guy’ who will do all the little things that most people won't do and he does them because he knows it will make our team better. He doesn't have the stats of leading the team in scoring or assists, but where he leads the team is in effort, diving on the floor for loose balls, and in charges taken.”
