Awarded April 2009
VWS Athlete of the Month:
Rosie Lewis '09
Rosie is, quite simply, an extraordinary athlete. She combines talent and a remarkable work ethic with superior results. She recently set the school 400m record in track with a blazing 60.7 quarter at the Ontario Invitational. Only a few tenths of a second away from the school 300m intermediate hurdles record, she is poised to take another. She has consistently dominated the 100m and 300m hurdles; however, says Coach Donald Ball, “it is also her affable nature and good will toward her teammates and competitors that truly make her stand out as a leader. A young woman of tremendous grace and power, she is a first rate sportswoman.”
WSC Athlete of the Month:
Moddie Wilson '09
Moddie’s play on the golf team this season has been stellar, with a low round of 1 under par at Woodley Lakes. And whether it’s flop shots with his 7-iron or bombing 320 yard drives, he has inspired the younger members of the team with his play. According to Coach Chris Paragamian, Moddie has shown incredible growth this year as an athlete of honor. After a challenging 2008 season - both on and off the golf course - he says, “Mo's attitude has been fantastic. The other guys look up to him now and ask him for help, which they didn't before. He has been especially helpful with our younger players, giving them tips on the range.” Showing that it takes more than good play to be a great athlete, Moddie’s ability to take challenges in stride and his support and encouragement of his team members have earned him this month’s WSC Athlete of the Month award.
