-
Q
Do you admit international students to grade 11 or 12?
-
A
In some cases, we will consider an International applicant for grade 11. However, that candidate must be under 18 years of age. We do not admit any candidate regardless of citizenship status to grade 12.
-
Q
May I repeat a grade level?
-
A
There are instances whereby we will agree to allow a student to repeat a grade level. However, that must be approved by the Director of Admission after careful review of a candidate’s academic record and consideration of the student’s age. We typically do not allow for repeat grade 11 placement.
-
Q
Do The Webb Schools have quotas for the number of international students they will admit?
-
A
We are open to applicants from all countries and do not use quotas to determine the number we will admit. Webb seeks the best and the brightest students, students who will benefit from our school’s many programs and whose record of accomplishments in and out of the classroom indicate a high probability of success at our school.
-
Q
What are my testing requirements?
-
A
All applicants must take either the SSAT or ISEE. Grade 11 applicants whose second language is English must submit TOEFL scores in addition to one of these tests. International applicants may also want to submit TOEFL scores, but we only require the TOEFL - test code 1793 - for grade 11 applicants. We do not accept SAT, SLEP, or IELTS scores as substitutes for the above tests.
-
Q
Is there a minimum SSAT test score requirement?
-
A
Most schools do not have minimum requirements but given the large number of applications we receive, we find that the successful candidate typically has a raw mean score of 2100 with no subtest (Verbal, Reading, Math) below 700.
-
Q
Do you offer an English as a Second Language (ESL) program?
-
A
No. All Webb classes are conducted exclusively in English. International students need to demonstrate high proficiency in written and spoken English before we can consider them for admission.

Q
Does Webb admit international students at mid-year, i.e. for the spring semester?
-
A
Webb does not admit international students at mid-year.
-
Q
What is Webb’s TOEFL code?
-
A
Webb’s TOEFL code is 1793. Please mark this on your test to ensure that we receive scores directly from the testing organization.
-
Q
Can I submit other materials with my application not required by the school?
-
A
Our Admission Committee will only review those materials specifically required for admission: application, student essay, teacher recommendations (math; English teacher and school administrator) and official test results. Unless requested specifically by the school, all other materials, e.g. resumes, portfolios, photo albums, cd's, will not be included in a candidate's file and discarded.
-
Q
Will I need to visit campus for an interview?
-
A
The interview is an essential piece of the application process and is required for all candidates. We strongly encourage applicants to visit campus for the interview. Our admission officers do travel overseas to conduct interviews and we recommend those interviews be scheduled early in the fall. Please refer to our travel schedule for interviews scheduled closest to your city or region.
Due to the unprecedented demand for interviews from China, such candidates may be required to submit to a pre-interview conducted by our affiliate Vericant which is based in Beijing. Those interviews are reviewed by our Admission Committee before a formal interview is granted.
-
Q
What kind of support programs do The Webb Schools offer for international students?
-
A
We understand that for many this is their first experience traveling overseas for schooling and, perhaps, the first time in a boarding or residential program. To that end, we offer an extensive orientation program during the first weeks of school and have two adult international coordinators who are there to assist students and their families during the school year.
-
Q
Will I need a domestic host or guardian?
-
A
Yes. All international students must have a domestic relative or friend willing to serve as a host during short school breaks and emergency situations. We prefer that this host be in the Southern California region. If a family is unable to secure a host, Webb can assist in finding one.
-
Q
Are there openings after the January 15th deadline for international students?
-
A
In the unlikely event an opening is available only the most qualified candidate with a completed application will be offered an interview. Typically there are no spots available for 11th grade for late applicants.
