Congratulations to Rose Lewis '09 for winning the 100m Hurdles at the 2012 SCIAC Track & Field Championships held on April 27-28 at the University of Redlands. Rose still holds the VWS record for the 400m dash. Daughters strong!
We are sadden by the passing of Alan Hjelm '53 who died on April 17th in Lancaster, CA.
Great update from Jessica Dholakia ’07! Since August, she has been working at Pacific Council, a non-partisan international affairs organization addressing policy issues of special resonance in the West Coast. In her role as a Project Fellow, she has been assigned to the Council’s newest task force, the Latino Leadership Project.
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of George Pisk '49 who died on March 30th following complications from a stroke.
Congratulations to Andrew Lantz ’10! On April 7 at the Duke Invitational, Andrew broke the Men’s Track and Field 800m record at Davidson College, with his impressive time of 1:50.87.
It's always nice to hear from Brittany Loya ’06! Brittany is finishing up her first year at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, where she is pursuing a master’s degree in International Policy Studies with a concentration in Trade, Investment and Development.
Kelly McCloud '70 died peacefully at his home in Oakland, California on February 14, 2012, after a two year struggle with complications from surgery. Kelly is survived by his three brothers, Kimball ’67, Mark ’71 and James ’80 and his two sons, Christopher and Paul.
Founder and CEO of Goodreads, Otis Chandler '96, will serve as the Saturday, March 10 luncheon keynote speaker for the 24th Annual IBPA Publishing University in San Francisco.
Congratulations to John Scalzi ’87! His books Fuzzy Nation and Agent to the Stars have both been nominated for an Audie Award.
On February 22nd, Marie Colvin, the American journalist who worked for the British newspaper The Sunday Times, was killed while covering the siege of Homs in Syria. In this Mother Jones article, she is remembered by a reporter she took under her wing -- Kurt Pitzer '84.
