For young musicians, Webb is a proving grounds and a springboard to success. Whether at the introductory or and honors levels, whether vocals, strings, or woodwinds, our music program emphasizes public performance and offers students numerous opportunities to shine.
Webb boasts a full 65-piece orchestra,
strings and winds ensembles,
two student choirs, a barbershop quartet,
and the audition-only Chamber Singers.
The Webb Schools Orchestra and the Chamber Singers each give several major concerts each year, and the orchestra also performs in conjunction with the Culver Arts Research Lab (CARL) program at the University of California, Riverside. We also present at least one major audition-only musical theater production each year, which has led to the discovery of some gifted singers who had never previously recognized their own talents.
Webb's music program encompasses a multitude of genres and styles both classical and modern. Students also write their own pieces, learning to articulate their musical ideas as they master notation and analysis. Student music and performances are longstanding Webb traditions, not just in formal concerts, but also in special events like the annual campus-wide Jubilee Music Festival.
It's little wonder that Webb alumni have gone on to distinguish themselves in the music programs of major universities like Stanford, Oberlin, and the Cleveland Institute of Music and then in the music business. Webb provides a strong foundation for a great musical career.
