Track is a sport in which students of all ability and body types can participate and succeed. There’s room for small athletes, big ones, thin ones, not-so-thin ones, fast ones, slower ones, ones with endurance, ones with no endurance. Each student can learn to make varsity by performing to a moderately difficult standard in any of sixteen different events. Earning a letter is difficult, but regularly achieved by freshmen. No students are cut from the program because of a lack of raw ability. Success in track at Webb depends on willingness to learn, attempting appropriate events as directed by the coaching staff, and full participation in all training activities. Of course raw talent doesn’t hurt, but freshmen with no initially apparent talent have turned into league champs. Webb track and field is truly a sport in which all can participate and succeed.
