To the Senior Parents of the Class of 2012

Dear Senior Parents,

Years ago when my kids were young and Anne and I were shuttling from play dates to soccer matches, my mom said something to me that stopped me in my tracks. She said, “As busy as you are, savor these times. Raising kids is all about long days and short years.”

I don’t know how you are all feeling as we approach graduation day, but I imagine this sentiment hits home with you. Our long days as parents are eclipsed by the short and wonderful years we have with our kids before they grow up, before they grow finally into young men and women ready to take on the world. Indeed, this is exactly what has happened to your children.

As Head of Schools, I just wanted to let you know what a privilege it has been for all of us at Webb—teachers, coaches, and staff—to partner with you during these fleeting high school years. We thank you for believing and investing in the Webb experience for your child and for supporting the school community in so many ways. Just as your sons and daughters will always enjoy a life-long connection to Webb as alumni, so will you as Alumni Parents.

If you have younger students who are still with us, then of course our partnership continues. But if this is your final year as a Webb parent, I wanted to let you know how much I look forward to your staying involved in the life of the school. You are always welcome on campus for a play, an athletic competition, or an Affiliates event—or to just take a stroll among the oak trees and Eucalyptus. In fact, I promise you that we will keep you updated on all that is going on and our plans for the future.

One of the really nice trends I’ve seen lately is that we do have many Alumni Parents staying connected and returning to the school. You have all invested a tremendous amount here, and these roots are deep.

At the end of our graduation ceremony on June 2–for the girls on Faculty Field and for the boys on the Alamo lawn—we will all be deeply emotional. Perhaps knowing that this really isn’t the end of our connection will make the day a bit easier. I know it will for me.

As for the ceremonies themselves, we have a joyous and full day planned for you. For each graduation (VWS in the morning and WSC in the early evening), we reserve our front rows for the parents of our school graduates. But senior parents from each of the schools are most welcome to attend if they would like. We do not gather RSVPs, but if you need special assistance such as wheelchair access, please try to let us know in advance so we can take care of that.

Further, you can find all of the information you might need regarding our graduations on our home page at www.webb.org. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Anne Stewart at astewart@webb.org or at (909) 482-5245.

Thank you, again, and I look forward to sharing the special occasion with you. There is so much to celebrate. I thank you for all you’ve done to make Webb a better place during your time here.

Sincerely,

Taylor Stockdale
Head of Schools
