The stadium was filled on a sunny Friday afternoon when the Webb Gauls went up against the Chadwick Dolphins for their third and final game of the season. The game started with Joe Shaver '13 pitching but the Dolphins did not score until the top of the second inning. By the bottom of the second, Chadwick led the game with 4-0 and then Nick Gollin '13 stepped up to bat and then proceeded to walk to first and then to second. The game continued and it really got interesting with Gollin on third, Wyatt Christiansen '12 on second, and Shaver on first. Robbie Armatas '14 went up to bat and drove in the first run for Webb, sending Gollin home. Bases were still loaded when Ian Chavez '14 was hit and walked to first sending Christiansen home. Britton Bentley '12 walked up to bat and hit a single into the outfield, allowing Shaver and Armatas to run home, tying the score at 4-4.
By start of the third inning, Shaver was pitching to the Dolphins’ batter when Bentley caught the hit and flipped the field. The bottom of the third inning Sam Woodward '12 ran to second and then third with Gollin following up behind him. Jordan Veiga '13 went up to bat and bunted the ball allowing Gollin to get to third. With the bases loaded, again, Christiansen went up to bat getting Woodward home. Score: 5-4. Shaver went up to the bat and brought Gollin home, bringing the score to 6-4. Armatas followed and brought Veiga home with the Gauls leading 7-4. The game continued with Aaron DiGiamarino '13 bringing Christiansen home and Woodward who got hit and walked Shaver home. The bases were loaded with Woodward on first, DiGiamarino on second, and Armatas on third while Gollin stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam, sending the stands into a cheering frenzy. Score: 13-4.
By this point the Chadwick fans had ceased their taunting snickers at how the Webb Gauls might actually lose to the Dolphins and had settled in for the long haul. The game continued with the bottom of the third inning. Christiansen on third, Shaver on second, and Veiga on third, Armatas walked up to bat and sent Christiansen home. Chavez went up to bat and got hit again in the same inning, and sends Shaver home. The inning closed out with the scoreboard reading 15-4.
Shaver pitched during the top of the fourth inning and the crowd could see the tensions rising between the Chadwick teammates as their score remained at four. The ball game proceeded until the fifth inning when Webb Gauls were declared the winner with an eleven-run lead.
