April 27, 2012

Last Friday, Webb met its top competitors at the track field. Everyone stretched, warmed up, signed in, and the races began. Mairin Wilson '13 and Dolly Bai '14 did well in the first race, keeping a nice pace in the 1600m. Wilson got a time of 543.33 and Bai got a time of 603.25. In the next race, the 800m, Wilson picked up her pace and improved her time to 232.55 and her place to fourth.

Some extraordinarily fast boys at the prelims were Marcos Lopez '13 and Bobby Gonzales '13, who took off in the 1600. The girls’ hurdles went splendid with Amara Berry '12 getting first with a time of 15:01 in the first race, and Ivie Tokunboh '12 getting second with a time of 17:03. In the 400 the best girls’ time was Nancy Cheng’s '12 with 1:05:09, and the best boys’ time was Christopher Hernandez '15 with 55:89.

In the 100m, freshman did very well: Morgan McClure (14:53), Kathy Chang (14:51), Jake Todd (12:38), and Ricky Gonzales (11:58). Alicia L. Zheng '14 performed a great race as well in the 100m getting 12:89. Upperclassman did phenomenally well in the 100m: Landen Taflinger '13 (11:95), Steve Agajanian '12 (12:28), and Berry (12:01). Some P.R.s were made at the prelims as well: Jackie Withey '15 threw 56 ft. 11 in. in the discus and Evan Zhou '14 got a time of 12:79 in the 100m.

Based on these outstanding results from our talented Webb students, we look forward to the league finals this Thursday.

Week Ahead: Away for finals at Claremont McKenna on 5/3.
