To cap off one of the most successful baseball seasons in recent decades, it was just announced today that senior Sam Woodward ’12 and junior Aaron DiGiamarino ’13 were both selected to the 2012 ALL CIF Southern Section Baseball Team (Division 6).
Other Prep League season ending honors were awarded a number of varsity Webb baseball players. First Team All-League included Britton Bentley ‘12, Aaron DiGiamarino ‘13, Nick Gollin ‘13, and Sam Woodward ‘12. Second Team All-League included Wyatt Christiansen ‘12, Joe Shaver ‘13, and Jordan Veiga ‘13. And finally, senior Britton Bentley ’12 was invited to play in the Inland Valley All-Star Game on Friday, June 15 at The Epicenter.
Webb baseball finished the season with a 22-5 overall record and a 10-2 league record—garnering for the first time since 1985 a Prep League Championship. This was also only the fourth time in Webb’s 90-year history that Gaul baseball has captured the top spot. 2012 also marked the first 20-win season in program history and the first trip to CIF playoffs since 2004.
Head coach Jeff Stodgel (who was named Webb’s Coach of the Year alongside Kevin Quick, head coach of badminton—a team which garnered a League Championship and CIF Runners-Up) said, “This has been a great year with many accomplishments. The boys have worked hard through the off-season to prepare for the opportunities that were presented. They took one game at a time. The seniors provided great leadership. The program is still in its infancy and we look to build on this season. I am very proud of this group. To know where we started just 3 years ago to where we’ve come in such a short time is extraordinary. But we still have a lot of work to do.”
