Visiting Southern California from far and wide, a small contingent of independent school leaders stopped by the Webb campus on Thursday, June 21 to visit Head of Schools, Taylor Stockdale. After touring the campus, the group retired to the Head of School’s house where they discussed a variety of topics related to managing and leading independent schools.

Visiting Webb was Dr. James Kapae'alli Scott, President of the Punahou School in Honolulu. Dr. Scott has been President of Punahou (the largest independent school in the country) since 1994. Punahou is a K-12 day school with approximately 3,750 students. It was founded in 1841 and is counted among the best college preparatory schools in the United States.

Dr. Scott was joined by the Head of Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Massachusetts, Robert P. Henderson Jr. Noble is considered one of the top day schools in the Boston area (just 10 miles outside the city). The 7-12 Day and Boarding school was founded in 1866, and will celebrate its 150th Anniversary in 2016. It is a school of 560 students.

And finally, Marjo Talbott, Head of the Maret School outside of Washington D.C. joined the group. Maret, where Talbott has been Head for 18 years, was founded in 1911 as an international school. Walking distance from the National Zoo, Maret is a K-12 co-ed day school of over 600 students.

Stockdale said, “It was a great visit. We all share a commitment to providing the most relevant and dynamic educational experience possible. The visitors were blown away by the campus and Alf Museum.”
