Coach Jeff Stodgel and nine members of the WSC baseball program spent three days in Houston (July 25-27) to visit with Houston Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow, a Webb alumnus from the Class of '84. Click here to watch an interview with Jeff and Coach Stodgel.
Many thanks to Jeff and the Astros for their tremendous hospitality. The visit included a tour of Minute Maid Park where the boys learned about the history of the Astros. They watched batting practice from the field, saw the view from the press box, chatted with Jeff in the team dug-out, and met and talked with lots of the Astro players and even a few Pittsburgh Pirate players. They also got to meet the Astros Minor League coordinator where they heard about analytics and technology, and the importance of being bilingual.
It was a busy week for Jeff with the Astros in the midst of a critical trade season. We appreciate the time he spent with our students.
A few of the boys topped off the week with a trip to the Little Bitty Burger Barn where Jordan and Aaron tried to take on the Double Dare 8-pound burger.
All of us at Webb are grateful for this special opportunity. This was definitely a trip to remember!
