New Student Fun Facts 2012-2013

Enrollment

  • 130 New students (a record)
  • Overall enrollment: 410: 209 boys/201 girls (first time ever for girls)

Families

  • 23 of the new students have siblings who are current students or alumni of The Webb Schools. In total, 42 Webb students will have siblings on campus with them this year.
  • Five new students have a parent working at Webb.
  • Three new students have a parent or grandparent graduate from Webb

Location

  • Of all new students, one VWS student from Tanzania traveled the furthest to get here. She lives in Arusha, Tanzania - 9793 miles from Webb’s campus. The new student who lives closest lives only half a mile from Webb
  • New students represent ten different states, including Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas. Overall, the Webb student body represents 17 U.S. states.
  • New students come from 13 different countries, including Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Nigeria, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Syria, Taiwan, and Tanzania. Overall, Webb’s student body represents 19 countries.

Activities

  • Webb’s athletic program should be well-stocked for the next few years, as new students have training in 26 different sports.
  • One new student spent a semester in Hungary working out with the national under-18 water polo team.
  • One new student spent the summer at the Olympic training camp in Colorado Springs for water polo.
  • Fifteen new students were student government officers at their previous schools. Four of them served as student body presidents last year.
  • Fifty new students have training in 13 different musical instruments.
  • 10 new students are active debaters.
  • One student teaches piano and music theory after school to younger children.

Miscellaneous

  • Thirteen students earned a perfect score of 800 on at least 1 section of the admission test, the SSAT.
  • The youngest of our new students was born in June, 1999. That year, Lance Armstrong won his 1st Tour de France, Napster was launched, Family Guy premiered, the Euro was established, and the Governor of Texas, George W. Bush, announced he would seek his party’s nomination for President of the United States.
