On Saturday, September 29, 2012, a group of students and teachers will be attending TEDxClaremontColleges – an independently organized event licensed by TED – created in the spirit of TED’s mission, “ideas worth spreading.” The day-long conference will take place in the Garrison Theater at Scripps College. Webb students will experience 16 of the world’s leading thinker’s, each talking for 18 minutes or less on a topic they are most passionate about – technology, science, art and culture. This year’s theme is “Transforming Expectations” and the ideas presented are important across many discipline.
TED, a nonprofit organization, began in 1984 to bring together people from the three broad subject areas of Technology, Entertainment and Design that are collectively, determining our future. Today the scope of the conferences is much broader. TEDx events are designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. With a focus on sharing of ideas, the Webb students will have the opportunity to engage in conversations with the other attendees and the speakers.
