T
hroughout its history, Webb has been known for gathering together teachers who change students’ lives. If Webb is to continue attracting and retaining teachers of the highest quality, we must expand funds that support competitive faculty salaries and benefits, professional growth and enrichment opportunities, and rewards for excellence in teaching. The following sampling of endowment funds provides just such support.
Raymond M. Alf Inspirational and Unbounded Teaching Chair in Science
Created by Robert A. Hefner III (’53) in honor of
Ray Alf, this fund ensures in perpetuity the schools’ ability to attract and retain a teacher of Ray’s caliber by providing a competitive salary and benefits package to an innovative, energetic and unbounded science teacher. The fund also provides a stipend for professional growth and renewal.
Les and Barbara Perry Faculty Enrichment Fund
The fund was established in 1995 to honor Les and Barbara Perry with the creation of the
Perry Awards, presented to deserving faculty who embody the Perry legacy. The Perry Award is given to exceptional teachers, teachers like Les, who request opportunities for professional growth and renewal.
The Demetriades Prize for Unbounded Teaching
Established in 2005 by alumnus James Demetriades (’80) in honor of his 25th reunion, the Demetriades Prize for Unbounded Teaching is awarded annually to a Webb teacher for the most innovative and creative course, program or approach that fosters a hearty appetite for the joys of unbounded thinking and learning among students and others.
Jean E. Miller Excellence in Teaching Award
Named in honor of the second headmistress of Vivian Webb School, the fund was established in 1987 by the Affiliates of The Webb Schools to recognize and award distinguished teaching.
Thompson and Vivian Webb Excellence in Teaching Award
Founded in 1988 by alumnus Edmund L. Piper (’43), this award is given to a full-time teacher in any one of their first three years at The Webb Schools. It recognizes the teacher for making an outstanding impact on the schools.
