Webb’s first league championship in football dates all the way back to 1925 — just three years after the founding of the school. Since that time, Webb has held the league championship on five occasions in a variety of very competitive Southern California leagues — most recently in 1992.
Amahl Thomas has been coaching Webb football since 2013. In 2019-20, he was named WSC Coach of the Year.
In high school, he was his football team’s MVP and was named All-League and All-County defensive back, as well as being named Santa Barbara High School Athlete of the Year and inducted into the Santa Barbara High School Hall of Fame.
Thomas continued his football career at UC Santa Barbara, where he started all four years and majored in Black studies. At UCSB, he was also named MVP as well as Division II All American.
He holds several UCSB records, including most catches in a game, most catches in a season and touchdowns in a season. Thomas was inducted into the UCSB Hall of Fame in 2012. He has also coached football at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) and Chaffey College.
Thomas holds a master’s degree in education from Claremont Graduate University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in education.
