Stephen Hebert, WSC Golf Coach
To say Stephen Hebert is obsessed with golf is a bit of an understatement. He began playing on the public links of southeast Texas when he was in elementary school and hasn’t stopped competing. He has been coaching junior golf for over 15 years.
Hebert serves as the head coach for the WSC Golf Program and the assistant coach for the VWS program. In both roles, he seeks to take a very complicated game and simplify it. The system he has developed over these years — Simple Golf — is intended to help junior golfers improve their game by simplifying their approach both on the practice tee and on the course. Hebert stresses avoiding decision fatigue by making decisions before you even arrive at the course. What will your practice look like? What club do you plan to hit off of each tee? These are choices that can and should be made well before the Webb Golf van rolls away from the Crossroads.
As a coach, Hebert knows that each player is different and has different needs. He loves to find that perfect insight, wording, or drill that will help a concept click for a golfer.
Lastly, Hebert’s primary goal for the Webb Golf program is to take an individual sport and turn it into a team sport. His coaching philosophy rests on the idea that individual success can only be possible if we build from a strong foundation of camaraderie with our coaches, captains, and peers who support us and hold us accountable both on and off the course.
