Training and competing in the beautiful Barbara Mott McCarthy Aquatics Center, VWS and WSC recently completed extraordinary seasons. VWS water polo clinched the league championship in 2017. WSC water polo finished as league champions in 2015 and 2016. In 2009, WSC water polo was crowned CIF Division 6 Champions.
Water Polo Coaches
WSC Water Polo Coach Howie Kalter
Howie Kalter has been an avid water polo player since the 10th grade. After graduating from Phillips Academy, Kalter played for four years at Bucknell University and continued his water polo career at BU as a coach for one season. He then played professionally for the Harbour City Hawks in Wellington, New Zealand, and coached at Brown University, the University of Vermont and Phillips Academy before coming to Webb.
Kalter has been teaching for six years in the math program at Webb. When he's not coaching water polo or teaching math, you'll find him on a hike, fishing, rock climbing or just enjoying the great outdoors.
VWS Water Polo Coach Elyssa Hawkins
Before joining Webb, Elyssa Hawkins served as assistant coach to the women’s water polo team at Pomona-Pitzer College. She previously coached in Illinois at Windy City Water Polo in Oak Park and Lyons Water Polo Club in Western Springs. She has led youth teams to state championships and has former players who are now competing in the NCAA and for the USA Junior National Team.
Hawkins played as a defender for Carthage College, which earned third place in the CWPA Division III conference. She earned Academic All-American honors twice, Academic All-Conference all four years and was a Carthage Distinguished Senior Athlete Finalist in 2018. She also was a member of the USA Water Polo Olympic development program.
Hawkins graduated from Carthage College with a Bachelor of Arts in digital media and an emphasis in sports science and public relations.
