Professional focus: Humanities teacher, wrestling head coach
Scholarship or professional activities: Always needing to follow a creative life, I paint and write. I am the author of an epic poem, The Epic of Clair, published in 2014. An essay about the process of writing the poem was featured that same year in the North American Review. I also had a piece titled “Call” published in Poetry East magazine.
Favorite spot at Webb: The walk up to the chapel under the oaks and between the jade plants – the quiet heart of Webb.
Favorite book or author: Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko
Typical Saturday routine: I cannot help but wake up early, even after a packed week. The day begins with coffee and a walk with my wife, Alison, who works in Webb’s advancement office. We usually stride up Webb Canyon Road and the steep incline that leads into the hills of Claremont Wilderness Park. The view of Mt. Baldy and its siblings thrills us every time. The rest of the day is given over to cooking, reading, checking with advisees in a chill way, maybe some outdoor bouldering and probably a visit to Claremont Village, where I’ll probably order more coffee.
