Professional focus: I hold a B.S. in biology from the University of North Carolina and a Ph.D. in molecular and cellular biology from UC Berkeley. My focus is on the sciences, including development of courses in biotechnology and microbiology. I teach AP Biology and AP Chemistry. Outside the classroom, I help with Webb’s science research program and assist with coaching the baseball team.

Scholarly or professional activities: I attended a pair of teaching institutes in July 2022 at Boston University by The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS) for new boarding school teachers. NowBoarding addressed the culture and traditions of boarding schools while the New Teacher Institute focused on instruction and classroom management.

Grew up: Raleigh, North Carolina; I most recently lived in the Bay Area.

Live on campus: Yes

Favorite music or musician: I grew up with parents playing in old-time string bands, so I have a pull to that genre, but I also enjoy others. Some favorite bands or musicians are Outkast, Mdou Moctar, Dolly Parton, Megadeath and Etta Baker.

Favorite book or author: I enjoy reading non-fiction, biographies or memoirs and sci-fi or fantasy.

Favorite TV show or movie: Pan’s Labyrinth for movie. For TV shows, I like King of the Hill and Star Trek Voyager.

Saturday routine: I like to go on a hike with my partner and cook some food together. In the evening, I will occasionally play games with my friends.
