Professional focus: I am the director of instrumental music at Webb. I conduct the Orchestra and Wind Ensemble at Webb. I am so lucky that I get to work with musicians, since it is my favorite thing to do. In addition to teaching, I am a class advisor and I lead the music performance afternoon activity and assist with the musical theater afternoon activity. I have worked in the dorms for over 10 years as well as taking students on arts adventures (concerts, dance, art museums) as part of our weekend activities.

Professional or scholarly activities: I also play the clarinet professionally and I am part-time faculty at Cal Poly University, Pomona. I volunteer in art education at local public schools.

Years as an educator: 40 years. I’ve been at Webb since 2006.

Grew up: Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Houston, Texas

Favorite spot at Webb: My favorite spot at Webb is either in the Liu/Cheung Theater working with students or walking across the campus gazing at the mountains.

Favorite music or musician: Beethoven and Mozart rock my boat, but so does the music of Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington and musical theater….

Favorite book or author: The Rest is Noise by Alex Ross, The Overstory by Richard Powers, The Swimmers by Julie Otsuka

Favorite TV show or movie? Too many to name.

Saturday routine? Read student emails, talk to advisees, swim laps, eat a meal with friends, garden, practice an instrument or play in a concert, take a student to one of my music performances
