Coronavirus - The Webb Schools Updates


The Webb Schools is closing its campus and suspending in-person classes as of Thursday afternoon, March 12. Online classes will begin on Friday, March 20. With this closure, Webb is immediately beginning to support students returning to their families. We know this will take a few days, and for a number of students longer. Webb remains staffed and ready to support the needs of all student in dormitories and faculty homes as necessary.

Important Dates:
March 12 -- Campus Closes for In-Person Classes
March 20 – Online Classes Begin for All Students
March 28 – Spring Break Begins
April 13 –    Online Classes Continue for All Students
Late April – Assessment Regarding Possible Campus Return

    That’s where Terence Tien ’13 gets to go to work each day! As an Associate Project Engineer with Walt Disney Imagineering in the Design + Planning Studio, Tien works with the Imagineers who design the immersive built environments at Disney’s parks and resorts. In his role as a Project Engineer, he provides technical integration between all of Disney’s studio partners including Creative Show, Ride Engineering, R&D, Live Entertainment, and much more.

  • Equity in Computer Science Honored

    Webb was honored to receive the College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for attaining exceptional female representation in AP Computer Science Principles in 2019. Webb was one of just 3 percent of schools so honored in the United States—out of more than 20,000.
     
    This award from the College Board is meant to acknowledge the outstanding work Webb is doing to close the gender equity gap in computer science. Webb’s longstanding, programmatic goal is to enroll an equal number of Vivian Webb School and Webb School of California students in the computer science program.

    When Ziyad Duron ’15 was a teenager playing video games, he probably had no idea that he was preparing for his future career, in which the mobile game he created as an undergrad at Cornell would make it onto the front page of the App Store. Family Style, a cooperative multiplayer cooking game, has players racing against the clock as they assemble dishes, trade ingredients, and try to keep their kitchen afloat. It’s fast-paced and fun--and it marks Duron’s successful entry into the competitive field of video game development.

    Priya Verma ’02 thought she would pursue a career in sports law before she set her sights on the entertainment industry. I wanted to be the general counsel of an NFL or NBA team until I realized their jobs are quite boring,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in November 2019. “My desire to do sports just fell away because I fell in love with television,” she told Webb months later.
