Gauls Bring Home Six League Titles in Spring 2023

Webb athletes played a stunning Spring 2023 season! The Gauls brought home six league titles for swim & dive, track & field, tennis, and golf. Additionally, four Gauls were named with individual honors by their leagues!

VWS and WSC Swim & Dive had an extraordinary season. Not only did both teams win league titles for the first time since 1992 and 2003 respectively, but swimmer Maya Chin ’26 was named the San Joaquin League Girls Swimmer of the Year! While competing at Mt. SAC’s High School Winterfest Championships in March, Maya set several new VWS records in the 500 Yard Freestyle and the 200 Yard Freestyle.⁠ The league’s coaches also recognized Coach Ken Rosenfeld as the Swim & Dive Coach of the Year.

VWS and WSC Track & Field also excelled in the San Joaquin League. Both teams brought home league titles for the first time in over a decade; VWS last won the league in 2011, and WSC in 2008. The league also recognized two Gauls as Athletes of the Year. Britney Lu ’23 is the Girls Field Event Athlete of the Year, and WSC runner Jordan McCray ’24 is the Boys Track Athlete of the Year. The VWS 4 x 400 Relay Team also set a new school record this season. On March 28, Ella Garcia ’25, Nicole Samson ’26, Siena Burke ’25, and Abbey Cook ’23 ran the relay in a super quick 4:03:66! The previous record time of 4:19:32 was set in 1990.⁠

WSC Tennis captured the league title with an undefeated season. Unfortunately, they drew a tough first match for CIF competition and lost in the first round to Fullerton.

WSC Golf also ran away with the league title this year for the first time since 2017.

Webb’s coed Badminton team went to CIF and won the first round of play against Citrus Valley. The team went out in the second round against San Gabriel High School.

Lam Tran ’24 of WSC Volleyball was named the Libero of the Year for the Academy League.

WSC Baseball had the opportunity to participate in the playoffs but sadly lost their wildcard game against South El Monte High School.
