29th Peccary Dinner Benefits Alf Museum

Over 160 guests attended the virtual 29th annual Peccary Society Dinner. Guests were treated to a dynamic program produced by the museum staff and assembled by Alf Museum Collections Manager and Outreach Coordinator Gabriel-Philip Santos.

Highlights of the program included an overview of the latest discoveries from the summer Peccary Trip to Wyoming and Utah and details of the transition of museum director from Dr. Don Lofgren to Dr. Andrew Farke.

The 2021 Raymond M. Alf Excellence in Paleontological Research and Education Award was presented to paleontologist Dr. Julie Meachen, a researcher at Des Moines University who has revolutionized understanding of ice age carnivores.

Each of this year’s Rogers Peccary Scholars, as well as their research projects, were introduced in turn. These students make original and important contributions to scientific knowledge, an opportunity available only at Webb.

Before guests sang the Peccary Song, Museum Board of Trustees Chair Larry Ashton ’70 was celebrated for receiving the 2020 Colborn Distinguished Service Award. The evening closed with a Zoom social hour in which alumni from seven decades, parents, friends and Peccary Scholars toasted the museum with faculty and staff.

Thank you to our Peccary Dinner sponsors and guests! Your support raised over $200,000 for the Alf Museum’s annual budget, which supports every aspect of this excellent institution, from student field research and fossil preparation to community outreach and virtual tour production.
