Two Webb Football players participate in inaugural 215 Football All Star Classic.

Frank Dariano
Held Sunday, January 29th at 4PM, the game pitted the best senior football players from smaller schools in San Bernardino and Riverside County against one another. It preceded the 2nd Annual Inland Valley Hall of Fame All Star Football Classic, which featured players from larger schools. Both games will be played at A.B. Miller High School in Fontana. Webb’s players were on the San Bernardino County All-Stars, which beat The Riveside County All-Stars 20-19 on a last second touchdown pass.

Representing Webb Football:

Apollo Thomas: Webb’s star defensive end and tight end will continue his football career at Pomona-Pitzer in the fall. Thomas led Webb’s defense in 2016 with 137 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and an astonishing 14.5 sacks. Thomas also caught six touchdowns and had over 400 yards receiving. Apollo was named first team all-San Joaquin League and won the Don Harcourt award as Webb football’s Most Valuable Player for 2016. Thomas also plans to play in the East/West San Gabriel Valley All-Star Game on Friday, January 27th at West Covina High School.

Adrian Alvarez: Adrian was named first team all-San Joaquin League for the Gauls and recently received an offer to continue his football career at Division III Cornell College in Iowa. He led Webb with 1080 all-purpose yards and 53 catches in 2016. He was tied with Nick Jung for the most receiving touchdowns (9), and was second to Jung in receiving yards (591). • About Art School

In an expose of sorts, one pegged to the publication of Gary Alan Fine’s new book Talking Art (U of Chicago Press, 2018), Charlie Tyson explores the facts and fictions surrounding MFA programs in the visual arts in America. A review of Fine’s book finds that seven of the 10 most expensive higher-education institutions in the U.S. are, in fact, art schools. But is it worth it? Maybe, if you want to be a professional artist. Tyson’s article also notes that more than half of the top 250 best-selling American artists at auction have an MFA.
