Sophomore Career Evening 2017

On February 12, the Alumni Office together with the Alumni Council, welcomed back 12 alumni speakers for the 18th Annual Sophomore Career Evening. The featured speakers spoke with the sophomore classes about their professional experience in the career fields of Medicine & Health, Entrepreneurship & Social Media, S.T.E.M., Fashion & Gaming Design, and The Law.

The event began with opening remarks and introductions from Alumni Council President, Rahmi Mowjood ’90, before students and speakers were off to their chosen sessions. Of the five sessions offered, students chose their top two and also had the opportunity to network with all speakers over cookies and cocoa at the end of the evening.

Themes in each session included how each alumnus/a’s Webb experience helped shape their career path and the importance of getting started early with internships and networking. The presentations were informative, engaging and extremely well received by the sophomore class. Students heard from a variety of professionals, including a software engineer, neurosurgeon, data scientist, fashion designer, obstetrician-gynecologist, entrepreneur, social media specialist, attorney, orthopedic surgeon, and game designer about the rewards and challenges of their chosen profession, and how they arrived to where they are today. Alumni spoke about the importance of internships and externships for gaining real world experience, loving what you do each day, and having a passion for your studies both now and while in college.

Many thanks to Alumni Council members Katherine Kilmer ‘10, Coleen Martinez ’86, Dwight Morgan ’65, and President Rahmi Mowjood ’90 for their help with the evening, and to our 2017 volunteer alumni speakers:

  • Congratulations 2018!

    Hector Martinez
When some colleges are reporting less than a 5% admit rate (Harvard & Stanford) and many others remain in the single digits, it’s good to know that no matter how tough things get Webb students are well prepared for the challenge. Once again, our students beat the odds. The members of this year’s graduating class are to be congratulated for admission into some of the most sought-after colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad. We saw 100% of the Class of 2018 admitted to a selective four-year college or university—90% will be attending a college ranked in the top 10% in the nation.
