Webb Travels to Asia

April was a month of travel for Webb! Following enthusiastic and well-attended events in Washington, D.C. and New York City, Head of Schools Taylor Stockdale, Mrs. Anne Stockdale, Director of College Guidance Hector Martinez and Director of Institutional Advancement Dutch Barhydt headed to Asia for four major receptions and many individual meetings and appointments. Reporting to the Webb faculty upon his return, Mr. Stockdale noted that “It is a priority for us to travel to Asia to honor and pay our respects to those families who send their students far from home to be in our care. It was a privilege to represent Webb and its excellent faculty as we met with wonderful families in Hong Kong, mainland China and Korea.”

In Hong Kong, Iris and Denis Yip P’18, ’19, TR (Brandon and Eunice) Samuel Lee and Stella Leung P’15, ’19 (Marcus and Gavin) and Tony Chiu and Cheri Yim P’20 (Jayden) hosted the Webb Parent and Alumni Reception at The Hong Kong Bankers Club. The festive evening included alumni, current families as well as new students. During his presentation, Mr. Stockdale first invited Webb’s newly admitted students to come to the front of the room to be introduced. He then invited the alumni to come to the front of the room to be introduced. He then had the two groups meet each other, noting that they would all be fellow alumni one day!

In Shanghai, longtime Webb friend Ping Xu P’13 (Alyssia) hosted a well-attended gathering of families, alumni and newly admitted students at the beautiful Xijiao Hotel.  After Ping welcomed the guests, Mr. Stockdale gave an update on Webb’s year, current plans and future aspirations, followed by a report by Mr. Martinez on the state of the college admissions world, and college results at Webb.

Moving on to Beijing, the Webb contingent was warmly welcomed by event hosts Chen Zhang and Shuhong Li P’19 (Cindy) and HuiQian and Xiarong Ju P’18 (David) who hosted an event for 70 parents, alumni and newly admitted students and their families at The Four Seasons. Mr. Stockdale delivered a “State of the School” report, followed by brief presentations by Mr. Martinez and Mr. Barhydt. Before the evening ended, Mr. and Mrs. Stockdale met with each of the newly admitted students, and with many smiles and plenty of laughter, all posed for a group photo, sharing their excitement for the year and years ahead!

Finally, in Seoul, parents Byoung Suk Hwang and Eun Young Rim P’18 (Joon) represented a very engaged parents group in hosting a dinner at Lecomptior Restaurant. As always, the Seoul evening was a warm and special time, where this group of dedicated and generous parents do so much to welcome the Webb team and support the school. It was the perfect conclusion to a trip theat began in Washington D.C. and included a grand total of six receptions (including Washington, D.C. and NYC) and 10 cities and meeting with over 300 Webb alumni, parents and newly admitted students.

We would like to acknowledge the generosity and support of the many parents who helped make this trip possible by providing guidance, support and such gracious friendship in each city. To them, we offer our gratitude and thanks. To all who attended an event, we thank you for your commitment to Webb and look forward to our next visit with you in Asia or on the Webb campus.
