George Wu '68

George Wu is a United States Federal judge in the federal Central District court in Los Angeles, CA. Judge Wu was nominated by President Bush in January 2007. He received his hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee in February 2007 and was subsequently confirmed in March 2007 with a 95-0 vote. Judge Wu received his official commission on April 17, 2007.

A native of New York City, Judge Wu attended Webb and matriculated to Pomona College. He earned his undergraduate degree in 1972 and earned his JD from the University of Chicago Law School in 1975. Judge Wu began his career as an associate with the law firm Latham and Watkins in 1975. From 1976 to 1977 and 1979, Judge Wu served as law clerk to the late Judge Stanley Barnes of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He returned to Latham and Watkins to continue as an associate from 1977 to 1979. He left the firm to become as Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Tennessee College of Law where he taught from 1979 to 1982. He moved back to Los Angeles to serve as assistant US Attorney from 1982 to 1989 and from 1991 to 1993. He worked in Los Angeles private practice from 1989 to 1991. In 1993, Judge Wu was appointed as a state court judge to the Los Angeles Municipal Court. In 1996, he was elevated to a California Superior Court trial judge on the Los Angeles Superior Court and held this post until 2007.
