Ruben Iniguez ’80 is an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Portland, Oregon, office of the Federal Public Defender. The Yale graduate who received his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law, made three trips to the U.S. military prison complex at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, after a U.S. Supreme Court decision upheld the detainees' right to challenge their detention in federal court. Iniguez was among the first attorneys to travel abroad (to Kabul, Afghanistan, and Islamabad, Pakistan) on behalf of his clients to substantiate their claims of innocence. As a result of his efforts, both his clients were released from custody.
