Adrian Alvarez '17 Officially Headed To Cornell College
Webb School of California senior Adrian Alvarez capped off a highly successful Webb Athletics career by signing with NCAA Division III Cornell College Saturday. Adrian will continue his baseball and football career for the Rams. He says coaches are scouting him to play safety and return kicks in football and to play the middle infield in baseball.
Adrian led the 2016 Webb football team with 1080 all-purpose yards, including 591 yards receiving and nine touchdown catches. He also had 57 tackles, two interceptions, and racked up 334 yards as a kick and punt returner, including two kickoffs returned for a touchdown
In baseball this spring, he hit .437 with 19 RBI’s, five doubles, one triple, and one home run, and was second on the team with 13 stolen bases, and was in on four double plays.
Adrian, who says he officially committed to the Rams earlier this month, becomes the third Webb senior who will play Division III football, joining Apollo Thomas and Nick Jung who will both play at Pomona-Pitzer. “I want to thank all my teammates and coaches, you all really pushed me to do my best,” said Alvarez during an on-campus signing ceremony at The Webb Schools. “I’ve seen Adrian grow and mature not only as a player but most importantly as a person, if he’s doing this every year he’s gonna make some waves at Cornell,” said Webb Head Football Coach Amahl Thomas.
While the tickets to see the upcoming production of Les Misérables sold out in a matter of minutes, The Webb Schools is pleased to announce a livestream of the Friday May 18th performance will be available on the school's website and Facebook page. The performance will begin at 7:00pm PDT.
Webb swimmers finished their 2018 season in championship style last week. The rundown: two days, two proud coaches (Ken Rosenfeld & Tom Jurczak), seven broken/re-broken school records, and one Vivian Webb CIF champion (the first individual swimming CIF champion in VWS history)!
When some colleges are reporting less than a 5% admit rate (Harvard & Stanford) and many others remain in the single digits, it’s good to know that no matter how tough things get Webb students are well prepared for the challenge. Once again, our students beat the odds. The members of this year’s graduating class are to be congratulated for admission into some of the most sought-after colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad. We saw 100% of the Class of 2018 admitted to a selective four-year college or university—90% will be attending a college ranked in the top 10% in the nation.
