Alumni Families Join Summer Junior Scholars Program
More than a dozen alumni families (well their 7th, 8th, and 9th graders) are taking part in Webb’s Junior Scholars Program this July. From as close as Los Angeles and San Diego, to as far away as Hong Kong and Thailand, children of alumni are enrolled in one or more of four special educational boarding programs on campus: Paleontology, Leadership, Digital Arts or Science and Engineering.
As Session One comes to a close, the highlights worth sharing are many. Students took part in a variety of field trips as part of the academic day, ranging from Warner Brothers Studios to joining a research vessel with the Long Beach Marine Institute, from studying at the California Science Center and Natural History Museum to completing a tough ropes course.
Afternoons and evenings were full of fun, too. Students enjoyed pool parties, putting on a talent show, a night at the observatory, a Quakes baseball game, and much more. This year Session 1 ran July 8-17. Session 2 runs July 19-28.
Sponsored by the Robert ’53 and MeiLi Hefner Foundation and offered here at Webb to two current students, The Hefner Initiative aims to foster a close and positive relationship between the people of China and the US. This extraordinary 12-day summer program includes travel this year to Beijing and Suzhou—allowing for living/learning opportunities with host students and families.
