Following their first win of the season, Webb football headed to Upland for their second game at Western Christian last Friday night. By the fourth quarter, the clock ran as the Gauls were ahead by more than 35 points, while the Lancers had yet to score. Defense was successful in their tactics as they upheld their lead. Western Christian has now lost 24 consecutive games as Webb ended the game with a score of 55-0 and an overall record of 2-0 for the season. —Maddie Stoddard '18

VWS Volleyball
Vivian Webb’s first varsity volleyball game of the season was held in the gym last Thursday, August 31 against Sierra Madre’s Alverno Heights Academy. The Gauls lost the first two games but rebounded to a 3-2 victory, undoubtedly with the help of Webb’s football team cheering on the team (15-25 24-26 25-20 25-20 15-14). Our players not only showed off their spirit on the court but also proved their advanced ability on defense. As the returning players quickly adjusted to their surroundings, the new players soon caught up to the pace. The victory is sure a great way to start the season! —Ivy Liu '19

  • About Art School

In an expose of sorts, one pegged to the publication of Gary Alan Fine’s new book Talking Art (U of Chicago Press, 2018), Charlie Tyson explores the facts and fictions surrounding MFA programs in the visual arts in America. A review of Fine’s book finds that seven of the 10 most expensive higher-education institutions in the U.S. are, in fact, art schools. But is it worth it? Maybe, if you want to be a professional artist. Tyson’s article also notes that more than half of the top 250 best-selling American artists at auction have an MFA.
