VWS Volleyball
Last week was challenging for VWS varsity with two games and an away tournament and few wins for the Gauls. At an away game on Tuesday, September 12, against La Mirada, the Gauls lost to the Matadors in three. On Friday, September 15, the Gauls were pumped to face nearby Ganesha and after the 0-3 loss on Tuesday, our team persevered and won against the Giants, 3-1. On Saturday, the girls traveled to Diamond Ranch to face Diamond Ranch, Gladstone, and Diamond Bar, losing all three games. A rough week, but our players consistently showed their spirt on the court and off, gearing up for next week’s challenges. —Ivy Liu '19

WSC Water Polo
September 12, WSC water polo had an away game at Granite Hills High School. The game started out positive for the Gauls with a strong offense, which is reflected in the score. As the game progressed the team began to focus on more defense. It ended with a win for Webb 11-3. This game was a great way to set the week off on a high note.

Later on in the week on Thursday, Webb played Bonita High School at home, a tough game for the Gauls. There were many ejections on both teams as well as long stretches of continuous gameplay. Phil Kraus '18 and Robert Torrance '19 scored goals throughout the game, some of which were skip shots and outside 5-meter shots. Webb kept the goalie active. Despite the great fight from the Gauls until the last second, it eventually ended in a 9-13 loss.

The next day Webb hosted another home game against West Covina High School. This game was a good opportunity to get lots of practice. Coach Kalter gave all his players lots of subs to rotate all the players in this game. Kevin Kang '19 made many strong shots leading in the Webb win, 17-5. Overall, the Gauls had a strong week. —Sonia Malik '18
