Webb parents and faculty raised over $270,000 at the annual Affiliates Benefit earlier this month, setting a new record for the amount raised at the event.
Themed "Dream. Plan. Do.," the benefit supported ongoing activities and opportunities for Webb students to learn and grow, in and outside of the classroom. With help from a record number of volunteers, the lower field on campus was transformed with lights, balloons, and music from live band The Fab 8.
Some 300 parents, family and friends from across the country and around the world browsed through silent auction items that included a package to Disneyland and homemade goodie bags for one child's advisory. After cocktails and a buffet dinner with food from Nuno's, Pappas Artisanal, The Grill House, Wood Stone Pizza, I Like Pie and Grizzby's, attendees gathered under the tent's string lights for the live auction.
From tickets to a taping of The Late Late Show with James Corden to a weekend getaway to Las Vegas, this year's live auction featured over half a dozen items. Highly coveted items such as a tour of the USS Stockdale with Head of Schools Taylor Stockdale himself, and a private dinner with Director of College Guidance Hector Martinez and Associate Director Anthony Shin ’99 sold for record prices.
In addition, humanities teacher and dance instructor Michael Szanyi and numerous members of the Webb faculty joined together in making a contribution during the Fund-A-Need paddle raise, which will be matched by Stockdale in support of the benefit.
Proceeds from the event will help fund new technologies, improve learning spaces, and provide new possibilities for students and teachers to engage with the world.
We would like to extend our thanks to the chairs of the event, Laura Romero P ’12, ’15, ’20, and Christina Sego P ’19, ’21.
