When Keith Wilson Loring ’46 attended Webb School of California in the early 1940s, he acquired more than an education. He became part of something larger than himself, an extended family. Through a final gift from his estate, Loring fully funded the 5th largest financial aid endowment fund ($650,000) in Webb history.
Thank you to the 1,565 alumni, parents, past parents, grandparents, and friends who helped us end the 2016-17 Webb Fund campaign successfully on June 30. Your generosity enabled The Webb Fund to raise over $1.6 million, plus additional support for endowment and capital improvements, bringing total gifts to $5.2 million! Over 830 alumni participated, spanning nine decades with gifts received from nearly every class between 1937 and 2017.
This month marks the 20th anniversary of the passing of Barbara Mott McCarthy, whose name adorns Webb’s new aquatics center. Made possible by a leadership gift from Avery McCarthy ’52, the Barbara Mott McCarthy Aquatics Center is an elite facility for water polo, swimming, and diving.
On July 4, 2017 the Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology lost one of its most cherished leaders and supporters, Hugh Rose. As we honor the legacy that Hugh Rose left at the Alf Museum, we are filled with gratitude and admiration for his passion, generosity, and dedication.
The McDermott Family, Michael McDermott ’83 and Amanda Bi, in honor of their daughter Allegra ’18, have made a leadership gift to establish an endowed fund to support teacher and student development in World Languages and Cultures. Specifically, these funds will be used to support instruction in Mandarin and provide faculty and students with resources they can use to further their immersion into their study of Mandarin and Chinese culture.
