Admission Frequently Asked Questions

Q

What does Webb look for in an applicant?

A

Webb is a college-preparatory boarding school with a challenging curriculum, so we seek students with demonstrated academic achievement. Additionally, as an honor-bound community, we welcome students with strong character and a desire to be actively involved with peers, faculty, and staff.

Q

Am I eligible to apply as a day student?

A

Webb is a boarding community that admits a limited number of day students in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. Families wishing to apply for a day space must live in one of the prescribed day-area cities at the time they submit the admission application. At the time of application, a prospective day student must reside within one of the following cities: Alta Loma, Azusa, Chino, Claremont, Covina, Glendora, La Verne, Montclair, Mount Baldy, Ontario, Phillips Ranch, Pomona, Rancho Cucamonga, San Dimas or Upland.
A student enrolling as a boarder may not later become a day student. International students must enroll in our boarding program.

Q

Does Webb admit students for grades 10, 11, and 12?

A

Our primary admission year is grade 9, but we will also consider applicants for grades 10 and 11. We typically do not accept applications to enter grade 12.

Q

Do I need to submit all parts of my application at the same time?

A

All parts of the online application must be completed before it can be submitted. Our deadline for application submission is January 15.

Q

Do you accept new students for the Spring semester?

A

In rare cases, Webb will admit a students at mid-year. Examples of this may be a work-related transfer for the candidate's parent. International students are not eligible for mid-year admission consideration.

Q

Which standardized tests does Webb require?

A

All students applying for grades 9 or 10 must take either the SSAT or the ISEE. Grade 11 applicants may submit PSAT, SSAT, or ISEE scores. Grade 11 applicants for whom English is not the primary language must submit TOEFL scores in addition to the other required test.

Webb does not accept the SAT, SLEP, IELTS, or other similar examinations in place of the above.

Q

What are Webb's SSAT and ISEE test codes?

A

Webb’s SSAT code is 8080. Our ISEE code is 50600. Please mark this on your test to ensure that we receive scores directly from the testing organization.

Q

Are interviews required for all applicants?

A

Interviews are a required part of the application process. It is to the student’s advantage to visit campus for this interview, but a webcam interview may be possible for some international applicants. Applicants can also interview with an admission officer if he/she is visiting the candidate's region.

Q

How selective is Webb?

A

Typically, the Admission Committee reviews four applications for each available space.

Q

May I schedule a visit to shadow a class?

A

A brief visit to a class is part of our regular campus tour, but students generally do not shadow a full class. To witness our curriculum more fully, we encourage applicants to visit campus for one of our Open Houses, which we offer in late November and mid-January each year.

Q

Can my student repeat a school year?

A

In rare cases, we will consider an applicant who wishes to repeat their current grade. Families can make the decision to repeat a year only in consultation with the Director of Admission.

Q

What are the requirements for home-schooled students?

A

Webb welcomes home-school students to apply by submitting the necessary application materials and test results including full description of the curriculum, methods of assessment, and any organization that might have oversight authority for the candidate's program. Recommendations are encouraged from facilitators outside the family, if available. Further questions can be directed to the Office of Admission.

Q

Does Webb offer additional academic programs such as ESL or those specifically designed for students with learning differences?

A

Webb does not offer ESL. Students whose first language is not English must demonstrate complete proficiency in English in order to be admitted.

Webb does not have programs specifically designed to serve the needs of students with learning differences.

Q

When and how are admission decisions communicated?

A

Admission decisions will be available online on March 10, 6PM PST. Candidates must access their account using their username and password.
