Affording Webb

At Webb, we recognize that choosing an independent school, especially a boarding school, is a major financial decision for families. For that reason we are committed to helping families finance their children’s tuition costs. Webb offers need-based financial aid awards ranging from several thousand dollars to near the full cost of tuition to families from a broad range of income levels. In order for our financial aid program to be truly effective and to aid as many families as possible, it is expected that families will make an investment in their child’s education and make it a financial priority.

Within the limitations of our budget, and according to our financial aid policies, Webb uses the SSS recommendations as a guideline in determining individual awards. While the admission and financial aid processes are separate, we attempt to notify all admitted students and families of our financial aid decision at the same time we notify them of our admission decision.

In addition to financial aid, we have partnered with Your Tuition Solution to offer education loans to families attending Webb. Their company link can be found in the right column.

Financial aid is renewable and families are required to apply each year. To apply for aid please see the “How to Apply for Financial Aid” link to the right. If you have any questions please contact Jeff Stodgel.

Financial Aid questions

Q

When are financial aid applications due?

A

For the 2012-13 school year, financial aid applications and coinciding documents are due as follows:

Returning Students - January 15, 2012 (PFS and 2010 taxes and W2's); March 1, 2012 (2011 taxes and W2's)

New Students - February 1, 2012 (PFS and 2010 taxes and W2's); March 1, 2012 (2011 taxes and W2's)

Q

Will I need to pay back my financial aid award?

A

Webb’s financial aid program does not include any loan components. All awards are in the form of grants, which means families do not need to pay back the award. Families are able to secure loans from outside agencies if they would like, but these loans would not be connected to Webb’s financial aid program.

Q

Do I need to reapply for financial aid every year? Will I receive the same amount?

A

Families receiving financial aid need to reapply for aid each year that their child is enrolled at Webb. If a family’s financial situation does not change significantly, its award will remain comparable with awards from previous years.

Q

How secure is my financial information?

A

All financial aid files are kept in strict confidence and are destroyed when the student leaves Webb. Only financial aid officers and Webb’s Finance Committee—a total of five staff members and administrators— view and analyze financial information. Faculty and students do not know which families are receiving financial aid awards.

Q

Do recipients of financial aid have GPA or other special requirements?

A

No. Applicants must be admitted before we will calculate a financial aid award, but they are expected to meet the same requirements as all other admitted students.

Q

What happens if I experience a change in my employment or income status?

A

If a parent or guardian loses their job or otherwise experiences a significant loss of income, the family must notify Webb’s Office of Financial Aid. Depending on a variety of circumstances, Webb may be able to increase the family’s award. If this occurs, we will expect the guardian to participate in quarterly reviews to demonstrate a continued job search.

Q

Does Webb offer fee waivers?

A

Webb does not offer fee waivers of any kind.

Q

Are international students eligible for financial aid?

A

Due to the difficulty of assessing tax returns and other financial documentation from countries other than the U.S., international students are generally not eligible to apply for financial aid.

Q

Whom should I contact if I have questions about financial aid?

A

Please contact Jeff Stodgel, Assistant Director of Admission and Financial Aid, at (909) 482-5214 or jstodgel@webb.org.
