5 Students to Perform with CAIS Honor Band

Two students from Webb’s wind ensemble and three from the string ensemble have been selected to perform as part of 2023 the California Association of Independent Schools honor band.

Annie Huang ’24, plays percussion, Thomas Hu ’25 the trombone, Karen Chen ’23 and Jessica Cao ’23 the violin and Aurora Deng ’26 the viola.

Participation in the program is open to students in grades eight through 12 who receive a recommendation from their music teacher. In 2020, more than 250 students from 17 schools across Southern California took part in the event.

Webb has participated in the program for 10 years.

Last year’s band – for which Huang was also selected – did not get to perform due to the pandemic. However, the students are expected to perform this year in the 2023 Southern Section CAIS Honors Music Festival, set for Saturday, Feb. 4 at Viewpoint School in Calabasas.

The students will trek to the school on Friday, Feb. 3 for the first of two days of rehearsals and conclude with their performances on Saturday.

“This is a wonderful recognition of our students and their talents,” said Linda Silva, Webb’s director of instrumental music.
