Alf Museum Shares Science at L.A. Comic Con

The Alf Museum brought a taste of The Webb Schools to L.A. Comic Con this past weekend through the Cosplay for Science Initiative, sharing the “Galactic Archive” pop-up museum and helping to organize five science panels featuring experts from the Western Science Center, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium and more.

Panels ranged from the role of science in popular movies, such as “Star Wars” and “Jurassic Park,” to Pokémon and science fiction in general.

Led by Alf Museum Director of Visitor Engagement and Education Gabriel-Philip Santos, the initiative engaged with more than 2,000 Comic Con guests. Santos is the cofounder of the Cosplay for Science initiative, which explores innovative ways to share science with new audiences.

Student volunteers assisted with the event, including Andy Fu ’23, Sid Sinha’23, Stanley Jian ’23 and Sebastian Hofmann ’23.
