Spring musical spells F-U-N

The cast of The Webb Schools Theater Department's production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

This weekend The Webb Schools Theater Department presents the spring musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!

At the Bee, we follow a group of eccentric but literate children competing to be the last speller standing.

“The wacky and witty nature of the show was a great vehicle for this particular group of actors,” said director Stefanie Plumley.

In 20 musical numbers, the spellers demonstrate their idiosyncratic spelling techniques and reveal how they came to be such spectacular spellers.

Audience volunteers from the Webb community join the Bee every night on stage to spell along with the cast, too.

“All of the shows will be slightly different every night because of the audience volunteers!” said Ms. Plumley. “Julia [Tyck ‘23] and Terrence [Wu ‘23] are able to write their own bits of trivia for each volunteer depending on what they know about them. This show is particularly fun in a place like Webb, where everybody knows each other – the jokes can be very niche and specific!”
