Webb Honors Faculty and Staff Members at Commencement Ceremonies

Andy Wong — Security

Andy Wong is the inaugural winner of a new award for staff, the John and Madeline Frampton Staff Celebration Award. The award celebrates members of The Webb Schools’ staff for their dedication, hard work, and achievements both small and large.

One of Mr. Wong’s nominators wrote, “Andy takes pride in his work. His care for Webb and his duties are visible.”

Sonsoles Cardalliaguet — Teacher

Sonsoles Cardalliaguet was awarded the James T. Demetriades Endowed Prize for Unbounded Teaching.

Dean of Faculty Michael Szanyi said, “You know that you are in good hands when the class event trip project is under her purview. She makes you feel prepared, taken care of, and ready to experience the greatness she has constructed for you. Ms. Cardalliaguet is a powerhouse. From Spanish 1 to AP Spanish Literature and Language, Ms. Cardalliaguet asks her students to live the language, dive into the culture, and find their voice as they learn more about the world around them.”

Melanie Bauman — Teacher, Director of Wellness

Melanie Bauman received the Jean E. Miller Excellence in Teaching Award.

Dean of Faculty Michael Szanyi shared, “Melanie Bauman is a bedrock of this community whose love and care for us all permeates her actions and this place.”

Eric Hansen — Teacher, Wrestling Coach

Eric Hansen was recognized with the Laurence McMillin Excellence in Teaching Award.

Dean of Faculty Michael Szanyi stated, “His insightful, engaging, and supportive teaching style ignites intellectual curiosity in his students, fostering authentic love for learning. But Mr. Hansen’s contributions don’t stop in the classroom. In four short years, Mr. Hansen has transformed our wrestling program, helping his athletes develop into disciplined, resilient competitors. Mr. Hansen’s commitment to the sport goes beyond victories and trophies, as he prioritizes instilling values of sportsmanship and camaraderie.”

Kenny Huy Nguyen, Ph.D. — Teacher

Dr. Kenny Huy Nguyen was honored with the Thompson and Vivian Webb Excellence in Teaching Award.

Dean of Faculty Michael Szanyi said, “Dr. Nguyen epitomizes the spirit of Webb, stepping in to help support his colleagues whenever they need it, spending quality time with students to ensure that they feel confident in their math abilities before taking their assessments, and always showing up to contribute his enthusiasm and energy to our campus events and happenings.”

Rick Duque — Teacher, WSC Dean of Students

WSC 2023 Class President Daniel Hu presented a rock hammer to the WSC Dean of Students Rick Duque to honor his contributions to WSC upon his final year at Webb.

Daniel shared that Mr. Duque “has cared for and strengthened our brotherhood. … With a towering stature but an even bigger heart, Mr. Duque has always been there when our class needed him the most.”
