New student art installation appears in Gallagher Quad

Eleanor Hong ’24 has installed her “Barrens” art sculpture around the flagpole adjacent to Stockdale Community Center. The artwork, a series of metal wires attached to the pole that spills onto the ground below, is Eleanor’s AP Environmental Science project.
The work calls attention to the effects of climate change on the Pacific kelp forests and the oceanic ecosystem. In her artist’s statement, Eleanor encourages people to mitigate their environmental impact by reducing the amount of waste they produce.

“This art sculpture hopes to capture the loss of these beautiful ecosystems, and inspire the viewer to act,” Eleanor wrote.
