Welcoming Coleen Martinez ’86 as Webb’s New Alumni Council President

We’re excited to announce Coleen Martinez ’86 as the new Alumni Council President. She hopes to serve as a catalyst for communication and goodwill within the Webb community:

“Continuing to strengthen the bonds and friendships with so many wonderful people from diverse backgrounds and generations can be a fundamental networking opportunity for current students as well as the alumni at large. I learn from others every day (including my second graders), and I look forward to continuing to learn and flourish with all of you.”
Coleen previously served as a Member at Large on the Alumni Council from 2001 to 2022 and rejoined the Council in 2024. She has remained deeply connected and actively engaged in the Webb community over the years. She is a familiar face at Los Angeles-area alumni events and has contributed in numerous capacities, including as a Class Agent, a member of the Women of Webb affinity group, the 2017 VWS commencement speaker, and a panelist for the 2019 Alumnae Pioneers Panel, where she shared insights about the early days of Vivian Webb School and the experiences of its first female students.

As a student at Webb, Coleen was involved in drama, music, swimming, peccary trips, and various clubs. She earned a B.A. in Spanish with an emphasis in International and Intercultural Studies from Pitzer College and an M.A. in Education from Claremont Graduate University. She has worked in education for over 30 years and currently teaches second grade at Foothill Country Day School in Claremont, where she has taught for more than two decades.

As a long-standing member of the Alumni Council, Coleen has learned from past leaders the value of creativity in problem-solving, the importance of honoring diverse perspectives, and strategies for keeping alumni meaningfully connected—from the earliest graduates to the most recent.

Coleen and her husband, Hector Martinez, Webb’s Dean of College Guidance, are also proud parents to Webb alumni Ben ’19 and Will ’16.

We want to thank Kathy Fredrich ’02, who served as President for the last four years. Kathy will continue to serve on the Alumni Council as Immediate Past President and will support Coleen during the transition. Thank you, Kathy, for all you’ve done for Webb and the alumni community!
