Vivian Webb School Softball’s Elyse Morris Signs with St. John’s University (NY)

Frank Dariano
Morris says her path to signing with the Red Storm began during her sophomore year at Vivian Webb School. She was playing centerfield for her travel softball team, California Cruisers, and was switched from her usual spot in centerfield to third base. Morris says she played well, and St. John’s head softball coach Amy Kvilhaug just happened to be at the game watching and was impressed. The recruitment process proceeded from there. Morris eventually made a verbal commitment to St. John’s on July 20th, 2016.

Morris says St. John’s satisfied all the things she wanted for her college experience. She cited the university’s size (16,000 students) as being “the perfect size, much bigger than Webb, but still small enough to have the family feel.” She also knew she wanted to go to school on the east coast and “have seasons.” Lastly, St John’s’ physician’s assistant program was very attractive to Elyse.
Morris calls the chance to play division one collegiate softball “the first step” towards what she hopes to accomplish in her life. “It shows that the hard work of 12 hours of weekend ball has paid off, in addition to Webb ball…this is my chance to make softball the best [it can be for me], St. John’s has had lots of success lately and I want to make it better.”

Morris, who just finished her final season of varsity volleyball for the Gauls, hopes to “cherish” her final season of softball at Webb. She will sign her National Letter of Intent in a ceremony on The Webb Schools campus on Monday, November 14th, 2016 at 3 PM.

  • Congratulations 2018!

    Hector Martinez
When some colleges are reporting less than a 5% admit rate (Harvard & Stanford) and many others remain in the single digits, it’s good to know that no matter how tough things get Webb students are well prepared for the challenge. Once again, our students beat the odds. The members of this year’s graduating class are to be congratulated for admission into some of the most sought-after colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad. We saw 100% of the Class of 2018 admitted to a selective four-year college or university—90% will be attending a college ranked in the top 10% in the nation.
