43 Webb Winter Season Athletes Receive All-League, All-CIF, or Team Perpetual Awards

Congratulations are in order for the following Webb School of California and Vivian Webb School Athletes who won all-league or perpetual school awards for their performances during the winter 2016-17 season.

Webb School of California Varsity Basketball
saw Stephen Chai ’17 named second team All-San Joaquin League. Kia Nalbandi ’18 was an honorable mention to the all-league team.
For the perpetual awards, Stephen Chai ’17 received the Dietel Award. The honor recognizes the member of the basketball squad who has been outstanding in team play, individual ability, and sportsmanship. Lachlann Ashenmiller ’17 won the Kerry Tims Memorial Award. This award was established by the classmates and coaches of Kerry Tims ‘78, and is presented to the senior on the varsity squad who is the most inspirational player as shown through his enthusiasm for the game. For the Junior Varsity, Willy Martinez ’19 won team Most Valuable Player and Edison Adler ’19 was named Most Improved Player. Chris Halliburton ’20 won team Most Valuable Player, and Jordan Fang ’19 was named Most Improved Player.

Vivian Webb Varsity Basketball
featured Chloe Stewart ’20 being named First Team All-San Joaquin League. Jordan McClure ’17 was an all-league honorable mention.
 
Jordan McClure ’17 also won the Alumnae Association Award, given every year to the player who has been outstanding in team play, individual ability, and sportsmanship. Savannah Thomas ’18 won the Coaches’ Award for her devoted interest and hard work as demonstrated through improvement and use of abilities. For the Junior Varsity team, Enya Chi ’20 was named team Most Improved Player while Giselle Alrachid ’20 was team Most Valuable Player.
 
Webb School of California Varsity Soccer was one of three varsity winter teams to feature a league Most Valuable Player. Wyatt Albert ’17 won that honor as the league’s top player for 2016-17. He also was named to the All-CIF Team. Liam Gerken ’20, Jonas Gerken ’17, and Nick Jung ’17 received First Team All-San Joaquin League, while Lawrence Tsutsumi ’18 and RJ Duque ’17 won Second Team all-league. Takim Myrhe ’18 was an all-league Honorable Mention.
 
For the team’s perpetual awards, Yolbars Myrhe ’17 won the Dad’s Award, which is given to a player whose skills, flair, competitiveness and consistent performance make him a worthy recipient of the outstanding player title. R.J. Duque ’17 won the Martin Coach’s Award, which is given to a student for outstanding contribution and development in soccer at Webb, be it be for ability, spirit, sportsmanship, and/or improvement. Jeffrey Ran ’18 was the JV team’s Most Valuable Player, while Vince Pizano ’20 was JV Most Improved Player.

Alex Wilson ’17 and Victoria Romero ’20 were both First Team All-San Joaquin League. Nina Kidd ’17, Emily Stepanian ’19, Bridgette Lee ’20, and Ellie Canty ’18 were all named to the all-league second team, while Payton Williams ’18 was an all-league honorable mention.
 
For the team awards, Victoria Romero ’20 received the Coaches Award, which is given to a player for outstanding contribution and development in soccer at VWS - be it ability, spirit, sportsmanship, or improvement - or all of these qualities. Alex Wilson ’17 won the Alumnae Association Award: Given to the member of the team who has been outstanding in team play, individual ability, and sportsmanship.

Vivian Webb Varsity Water Polo
was led by Mary Davis ‘19’s selection as Valle Vista League Most Valuable player for the 2016-17 season. In addition, three members of the team received All-CIF honors. Davis was All-CIF First Team, Rylie Brick ’19 was All-CIF Second Team, and Chandler Luebbers ’17 was All-CIF Third Team. In the Valle Vista League, Luebbers and Lindsay Jung ’19 were named all-league First Team, while Brick, Emily Chu ’17, and Maya Fassler ’17 were named all-league Second Team.

For the team perpetual awards, Chandler Luebbers ’17 won Team MVP for being the player who has distinguished herself through leadership and outstanding play. Mary Davis won the Autumn Rabe Award: Given to the most inspired Vivian Webb water polo player. For the Junior Varsity Team, Olivia Vazquez ’19 was named team Most Valuable Player, while Sydney Wuu ’20 was team Most Improved Player.

Webb Wrestling
had several athletes finish in second place overall for their weight classes at the Cross Valley League Championships. They include Robbie Reimer II ’20 at 120 pounds, Nick Battistelli ’18 at 132 pounds, Josh Logan ’17 at 138 pounds, Spencer Easley ’18 at 152 pounds, Dmitry Semenov ’17 at 195 pounds, and Ben Chai ’19 at 220 pounds.
 
For the team Perpetual Awards, Spencer Easley ’18 won the coaches award for his ability in wrestling, enthusiasm for the sport, and sportsmanship. Dmitry Semenov ‘17 won the Art House Player Coach Award, given by Art House’s former wrestlers to a wrestler for his skill, determination, success, and strength of character in a challenging sport.
 
Webb Triathlon had two recipients for the annual Coaches Award in Grace Kirkland ’18 and Robert Torrance ’19. Marty Hild ’19 was named triathlete of the year.

During the team’s two races, several triathletes recorded times that ranked very high for their age group. During the December 11th triathlon in Hemet, Marty Hild ’19 took third place in the 13-17 age group with a time of 1:02:33, Daniel Hong ’17 and Liam Geary ’20 came in 5th and 6th place. At the Race on The Base competition in Los Alamitos on February 25th, Webb boys made up much of the field for the 15-18 male division, with Kevin Wang ’18 finishing third in the division with a time of 1:08:08. Other top finishers were Marty Hild ‘19 (4th place), Daniel Hong ‘17 (6th place), Max Griffon ’17 (7th place), Andrew Fenichel ’17 (10th place), Gavin Lee ‘19 (12th), Robert Torrance ’19 (14th), Harrison Lee ’20 (15th), and Drew Hirsch ’19 (18th). In the second wave, Grace Kirkland ’18 came in second in the girls’ 15-18 division (1:30:50). Anjali Reddy ’17 came in third place, and Madison Steinorth ’18 came in 4th place. Josh Ratinoff came in sixth in the boys’ 15-18 division.
