Nils Muiznieks '82

Nils Muiznieks ’82, the former Latvian Minister for Integration Affairs, is now the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe elected by the Parliamentary Assembly. Over the past 20 years, he has held numerous prominent positions. These positions include: Director of the Advanced Social and Political Research Institute at the Faculty of Social Science of the University of Latvia in Riga, Chairman of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance, Latvian minister responsible for social integration, anti-discrimination, minority rights, and civil society development, and Director of the Latvian Centre for Human Rights and Ethnic Studies.

Nils lives and works in Latvia where he has authored several books on the topic of Latvian independence. He is also a faculty member and the director of the Advanced Social and Political Research Institute at the University of Latvia.
